Sacaramento River

Upper Sacarmento River - Considered one of the 10 best places to fish in the world for wild rainbow trout drawing fisherman from all over the west. Don't be surprised if you catch rainbows of up to 20 inches in length.

Lower Sacramento River is by far our favorite spot on the river to fish. We've found that the best fishing spot with the biggest rainbow trout runs right through Redding and is located near Caldwell Park. Other fish that you can catch depending on the time of year is chinook salmon, sturgeon, shad and striped bass. Check or page on Marinas for boat ramp access.

Trinity Lake and Trinity River

Trinity Lake is the largest man made reservoir in the area and has been designated as one of the states best smallmouth bass lakes, especially during the spring and summer. Other types of fish that can be caught are catfish, chinoock salmon, ranibow and brown trout and kokanee.

Famous for it's fall and winter steelhead, the Trinity River also offers opportunities for both conventional and fly fishing. The Steelhead runs both summer and winter. Whiskeytown Lake

Whiskeytown Lake, located just eight miles west of Redding, hosts some of the biggest kokanee in the West which can grow to more than 20 inches in length. The DFG has planted streams, ponds and mountain lakes with thousands of rainbow and brook trout for the many fisherman who come to fish in this beautiful lake.

Shasta Lake

It's possible to fish for bass year round at Shasta Lake with Spotted Bass being the most common. Catfish is good during the summer months and varieties caught are Channel Catfish, White Catfish and Bullheads. In addition to the trophy-sized bass you can also catch cold-water fish like King salmon, German brown trout and sturgeon. Baum Lake near Burney


Great Rainbow and Brown trout fishing year round. This is well stocked lake due to its guaranted allotment that is stocked during the fall (8,500 pounds of rainbow trout and 1,000 pounds of Brown Trout) and also its proximity to the Crystal Lake Hatchery.
